Service Description

COURSE DESCRIPTIONS: *INTRODUCTION TO DENTAL ASSISTING: This course includes basic terminology needed for communication with other dental professionals and the public/patients(s). The course will also include an introduction to the basic equipment in a dental suite and their uses. * INTRODUCTION TO RADIOLOGY: Introduces the student to dental film types, anatomical landmarks, processing, mounting and generation of x-rays, digital x-rays and intraoral paralleling techniques. *INTRODUCTION TO DENTAL ANATOMY AND DENTAL CHARTING: This course covers the basic anatomy of the teeth and demonstrates how the various conditions and restorations of the mouth are documented for dental/legal conditions. *INTRODUCTION TO DENTAL SPECIALITIES: Provides an overview of dental specialties. These include periodontics, prosthodontics, periodontics, endodontics, and oral surgery. *DENTAL ASSISTING PRINCIPALS I: Focuses on the use and care of dental equipment, instruments and materials, infection control and assisting at basic restorative procedures. You will apply theory to practice on handling instruments in a clinical setting with other students. *DENTAL ASSISTING PRINCIPLES II: This course will focus on lectures; demonstration and practicing on fellow students that will help you develop the skills needed to carry out treatment under supervision. These will include taking and recording vital signs and medical/dental history, assessing and recording oral hygiene status, instructing patients in methods of plaque control, performing selective rubber cup prophylaxis, applying anticarogenic agents and topical anesthetic. *DENTAL MATERIALS: An introduction to the composition physical properties and manipulation of materials used in dentistry. These include cements, amalgam, composites, glass ionomers, temporary restorations, dental waxes, gypsum products and alginate. *DENTAL MATERIALS II: This course continues the study of dental materials to include final impression materials, study models, mouth guards, bleaching trays, polishing acrylic resin appliances, and dental sealants. *CHAIR SIDE ASSISTING: A detailed and practical application of dental equipment, rotary and dental hand instruments, and arrangement of the patient and dental team during all phrases of dentistry. This course will also review instrument transfer, oral evacuation, rubber dam placement and coronal polishing.
